Bolton Academy: an International Baccalaureate World School

Bolton Academy strives to provide an environment for all students that allows them to grow personally and academically in addition to their traditional materials.

From the IB website: "The International Baccalaureate® (IB) offers a continuum of international education. The programs encourage both personal and academic achievement, challenging students to excel in their studies and in their personal development."

What is International Baccalaureate (IB)?

The International Baccalaureate Organization is a non-profit, Swiss educational foundation.  Bolton Academy and North Atlanta cluster schools participate in the International Baccalaureate program, a prestigious curriculum enhancement that focuses on the development of the whole child, assessing social, physical, emotional and cultural needs.   The IB curriculum adds an element of academic rigor and provides students with a strong foundation in all the major areas of knowledge:  mathematics, social studies, drama, language, music, visual arts, science, personal and social education, and physical education.

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) curriculum for students ages 3-12 is organized around six themes:  Who we are, Where we are in place and time, How we express ourselves, How the world works, How we organize ourselves, Sharing the planet.

Obtaining the IB School designation requires dedicated human and financial resources and is a distinction that few schools attain.  Bolton Academy was awarded this prestigious certification in June of 2010 and remains an IB-certified school.

All teachers at Bolton Academy employ IB methods in their classrooms.  Teachers in IB schools require continuing education to remain abreast of the latest techniques and methods. Continuing education for IB teachers is critical to maintaining Bolton Academy’s status as an IB school and it requires additional funding not provided at the federal, state, and local level.  Visit the Soaring Owls Foundation (SOFi) to learn more about how to support this and other important funding efforts.
