Parent Empowerment Night GA Milestone Materials

Did you miss our Spring Parent Empowerment Night? We don't want you to miss out on the great information that our presenters shared, so in this week's Hoot, we have the content from our two Milestone presentations.

We know we all hear Milestones and think 3rd-5th grade, but these presenters provided valuable information to help your K-2nd graders too. The earlier they practice these skills, tips, and programs the more they will learn and grow as students so we strongly encourage all parents to read the information below.

Ms. Jermal Riggins, our APS ELA K-5 Coordinator, provided some great online tools that help our children practice reading comprehension. Her presentation (click here to view) included simple tips like making sure your child gets plenty of sleep, eats a great breakfast, arrives on time and has fun snacks to keep them motivated after the testing period is done. She said that it is not effective to cram for testing as it adds more stress to your children. Positive reinforcement and encouragement gives them a lot of the motivation they need to do their very best.  Here are some links she included in her presentation:

Ms. Kolt Bloxson, our APS Math K-5 Coordinator, brought all the tricks (click here to view her presentation) to keep our children engaged by using various games to play with numbers. From cards to cubes, we were doing math and having fun. Click on the link (English | Espanol) for more tools, but feel free to email our Parent Liaison Melanie Haley at melanie.haley@atlanta.k12.ga.us if you would like a copy sent home in your child's book bag. Ms. Bloxson graciously left us will extra copies so we will send them home as supplies last.

In next week's Hoot, we'll share information from our IB Session and our Supporting the ESOL Learner.
